Tutorials Week

Our three week summer workshop is traditionally preceded by a week of tutorials on useful tools for data science (and the workshop!) – called the pre-workshop week.


This year, we are opening these tutorials to the public, thanks to sponsorship from the Berkeley Institute for Data Science.


The following tutorials will be held at BIDS, 190 Doe Library from 4-6pm on June 26-29, 2017:


  • June 26: GitHub & Python Environment Setup (led by Diya Das)
    • In advance: please sign up for a GitHub account and download/install Git
    • In advance: please download and install Anaconda 4.4.0 for Python 3.6: we will not be using Python 2.7.

    • Setting up your Python environment:
      • conda create -n cdips2017 python=3.6 anaconda
        source activate cdips2017  # activate your environment to do your work
        pip install selenium pyvirtualdisplay  # install packages that aren't part of Anaconda
        source deactivate  # deactivate your environment when you're done
  • June 27: Data Transformation & Visualization in Python: numpy, pandas, matplotlib, and seaborn (led by David DeTomaso)
