The UC Berkeley Visiting Scholars and Postdoctoral Affairs has a number of programs and resources available for postdoctoral — as well as doctoral — students relevant to Career Development. In particular, the Berkeley Postdoc Entrepreneurship Program (BPEP), which aims to foster entrepreneurship in the postdoctoral and graduate community, and the Postdoc Industry Exploration Program (PIEP), which arranges industry site visits and workshops for careers in industry.
Originally aimed at the humanities and social science graduate students, the Versatile PhD now helps STEM graduate students as well identify and prepare for possible non-academic careers. “We want students to be informed about academic employment realities, educated about non-academic career options, and supported towards a wide range of careers, so that in the end, they have choices. The key concept is versatility: the ability to apply their skills and interests in a wide variety of fields.”
